Scheduling Guidelines

The individual scores for the previous tournament shall be used to rank the players. (Players who did not participate in the previous tournament shall be placed at the bottom of the ranking list).  The schedule shall be prepared from this ranking list as follows:

 

(1) Schedule for Round 1 & Round 2

Pairing shall be done as follows: 

#1 vs #2

#3 vs #4

#5 vs # 6, and so on.....

 

(2) Schedule for Round 3 & Round 4

The list will be divided into 2 equal parts and the top have of the list shall be paired with the bottom half of the list.   For example, if there are 20 registered players, the pairing shall be done as follows: 

#1 vs #11

#2 vs #12

#3 vs #13, and so on.....

 

(3) Schedule for Round 5 & Round 6

Starting from the top of the list, odd players will be scheduled to play against odd payers and even players scheduled to play against even players as follows:

#1 vs #3

#5 vs #7

#2 vs #4

#6 vs #8, and so on......

 

(4) Schedule for Round 7 & Round 8

The top player on the list shall be scheduled to play with the bottom player on the list. The #2 player will be scheduled to play with the second-to-last player and so on. For example, if there are 20 players registered to play, the pairing shall be done as follows:

#1 vs #20

#2 vs #19

#3 vs #18 and so on.....

 

(5) Players in the same team

Under no circumstances shall players in the same team (or related or associated teams) be scheduled to play against each other. The schedule under Guidelines (1) to (4) above shall be adjusted as necessary to satisfy this guideline.

 

(6) Playing another player more than once

Under no circumstances shall a player be scheduled to play another player more than once. The schedule under Guidelines (1) to (4) above shall be adjusted as necessary to satisfy this guideline.

 

(7) Odd number of teams (& odd numbers of total players) registered

(a) One player shall be given a bye in each round. This bye shall be given as follows:

Round 1:  To the #6 ranked player

Round 2:  To the #12 ranked player

Round 3:  To the #18 ranked player

Round 4:  To the #24 ranked player

 

(b) The above players shall be scheduled to play in two additional rounds known as Bye Round 1 and Bye Round 2 and the players shall be paired as follows:

#6 vs #18

#12 vs #24

Adjustments to the pairing shall be made as necessary to satisfy Guidelines (5) and (6) above.
